Widening Participation
CruiseSport

This project engages the growing group of predominately younger people (17-30) who already co-operate in small, unstructured groups to engage in “cruising”. This fashion conscious activity is as much about style and aesthetic modification as it is about competition. The participants include representatives from many ethnic backgrounds and with a growing element of female participants.

Over 25% of 15 to 24 year old males in the UK read magazines devoted to fast or modified road cars.
Their activities are perceived by some and on occasion may actually be illicit or illegal. CruiseSport has developed guidelines for legal “cruises” that can be applied to its own or other events, acts as an intermediary with the governing body (MSA) to arrange permits for competitive activities and with local authorities to arrange permits for convoys and events. CruiseSport will bring the participants into organised activities, which will improve their skills and training, greater linkages with existing motorsport and safety and will reduce the perceived antisocial aspect of the activity.

The project will deliver 41 CruiseSport events, recruit and register 18,000 new participants, create new 10 jobs and 180 training opportunities.
