 Professor Garel Rhys CBE
Professor D Garel Rhys CBE held the SMMT Chair in Motor Industry Economics and was the Director of the Centre for Automotive Industry Research at Cardiff University Business School. He is now Professor Emeritus at Cardiff University.
He has researched into, and written on, transport and automotive industry matters for four decades. He has also written widely on regional economics.
He has advised: Select Committees of the House of Commons and House of Lords; the European Union; the United Nations Industrial Organisation; the UK Government; and many companies and agencies.
He chaired the Economics Working Party of the Motor Industry Advisory Committee and is a member of the Board of Motorsport Development UK. At the same time is Chairman of the Welsh Automotive Forum; the Economic Research Advisory Panel of the Welsh Assembly Government; and the Wales Video Gallery.
He is a member of the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales. From the Autumn, he will be President of one of the UK's largest trade organisations. In 2007 he was advanced from OBE to CBE for his services to economic research in Wales.
